HED Ardennes
SKU: BA-AR
|
Overview
In reverence to a historic town…in honor of those that race there each spring… and designed and built by masters with over 20 years experience who realize that most of us don't have the luxury of a broom wagon or team car trailing us everyday; HED created the "Bastogne" wheelset.
The Ardennes, December 1944: Though vastly outnumbered, paratroopers of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division write themselves into history by defending the important crossroads town of Bastogne, Belgium in the face of determined assaults by a well-prepared enemy intent on total victory. With only raw guts and the supplies they could muster in one night, the encircled heroes of the 101st made their mark. Since that cold, snowy winter over sixty years ago, Bastogne has come to symbolize courage, defiance, and perseverance in face of overwhelming odds.
Now, every April, the misty forested hills of eastern Belgium are the battleground where the finest cyclists in the world fight it out in the oldest and most physically demanding of professional cycling's series of spring classics: Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
"La Doyenne" (with a course profile like a chaotic EKG recording!) snakes through its 260 km length with a parcours comprised of narrow, steep climbs and a trip over cobbled streets in almost every village on the course (a requisite for racing in Flanders) to make this event a particularly grueling test.
Simply put, the HED "Bastogne" wheelset is both light and strong. Light enough to uncork a powerful attack on the harsh twelve-percent grade of the Cote de Stockeu. Strong enough to lead the day's break through the cobbled streets of Trois-Ponts.
No matter how brutal the terrain, nor how tenacious the opposition; the Bastogne wheelset will inspire confidence and determination in your "spring classic".
And when competitors, seeking your surrender, see you pull away…they are sure to hear you mutter: "Nuts"
